THE ANTHROPOLOGICAL TREATISES OF BLUMENBACH AND HUNTER
This is a classic text in the history of human anthropology.
Blumenbach helped develop the theory of five human races, based on his study of skulls, etc. He believed that all people descended from Caucasion Adam and Eve; that variations in physical appearance were due to environment, but that none of the races were mentally superior or inferior. However, his classifications were used by other theorists to support racist ideas.
For sale is a scarce FIRST EDITION copy of this famous book. It was published in London by Longman, Green, Longman, Roberts, & Green, in 1865. The editing and translation is by Thomas Bendyshe. There are four illustrated, engraved plates in the back, including a fold-out of a famous illustration of five sculls that typify the five races, according to Blumenbach.
