POEMS OF HEINRICH HEINE
Jewish birth by birth, Heinrich Heine converted to Christianity. He and his relative Karl Marx shared some sympathies, but were not entirely in agreement. Heine and his writings were hated and burned by the Nazis.*
Here, many of his poems are translated and compiled by Louis Untermeyer and attractively bound by The Heritage Press. Throughout the book are sprinkled small color illustrations by Fritz Kredel.
Published by The Heritage Press. No printing date is given. Probably late 1950's. Copyrights 1917, 1937, and 1957.
The cloth on the spine is damaged. Otherwise, the book is in very good condition with only minor flaws, including speckling on the page ends and endpages. The blue slipcover box is faded and worn, with some chipping, fraying, etc.
