This vintage Mexican silver pin has the cutest donkey pulling his master home in a cart. A tiny blue turquoise stone is the burro’s eye. The master is wearing a sombrero and is slumped in the cart. He might not be sleeping due to a hard days work but because he had a bit too much to drink. If you look closely you’ll see what appears to be a bottle in the master’s hand that is overhanging the cart. Clearly his little burro is a loyal friend making sure he gets home safe and sound.
The pin measures 1 1/2" (3.2cm) wide and just over 1" (2.5cm) tall. It has a safety clasp closure.
It is marked “Heche en Mexico DF 850”. (Made in Mexico; Federal District of Mexico; Silver Grade) These markings go around in a circle – there is another mark in the circle that I’ve yet to decipher.
As with all the silver pieces I sell I clean & polish them enough to show the detail and find the maker’s mark. There is still patina on this piece and it has some surface scratches which are to be expected of vintage silvers and metals. If you like your silver finely polished you will want to polish it more when you receive it.
This pin belonged to my grand-aunt. It is in very good condition showing minimal signs of wear.
The pin is both adorable & whimsical. The workmanship is just beautiful. It would be a great pin for casual wear and quite a conversation piece.
Thanks for stopping in! Have a wonderful day!!
