The Norman Rockwell illustration "The Big Moment," also known as "Grandpa's Gift", and “The Gift,” is pictured on this glass. It was the cover of the January 25, 1936 Saturday Evening Post.
Grandpa is pictured allowing his young grandson to peek inside his huge coat pockets looking for his special gift. Of course, the “gift” – an adorable bulldog puppy – is in the other pocket peeking out & patiently waiting to be found.
The back of the glass has a brief history of the picture as well as telling Rockwell’s inspiration for this particular illustration.
It is marked “Country Time Lemonade Flavor Drink” and has the Country Time logo.
This glass stands 6” tall (15.2cm) and is 2 1/2” in diameter (6.4cm).
The glass is in very good condition & the illustration is clear & intact as is the description on the back of the glass.
The illustration pictured is known by many names. The “official” title of the piece is “The Big Moment” but is also well known by the names “The Gift” and “Grandpa’s Gift.”
This glass is from my mother’s collection of Norman Rockwell things. She loved his work.
Mom never used her collection of Rockwell mugs and glasses – she instead had them (some) on a shelf for display purposes.
This sweet glass would make a terrific gift for that special grandpa, or soon-to-be grandfather in your life.
