A beautiful porcelain jug, with hand painted pink and burgundy colored poppies, green leaves on a soft grey-blue background with a graceful Art Nouveau shape. The light jade green banding around the middle, top and lip has raised white beaded 'jewels' (dots). Hand painted gold trim outlines the leaves, stripes, base and edge, with a wavy line and dot design along the handle in gold as well.
This remarkable piece of antique porcelain is 4" tall and approximately 3-1/2" wide. There is no maker or decorator mark, but the style, quality and design elements all point to late 19th century unmarked Nippon porcelain. The painting is done with great attention to detail, and the design is balanced and very elegant.
The condition is excellent; there is one tiny flake on the inside of the lip on one side (about 3mm), which I believe was there before the piece was decorated, as the gold trim was painted right over it at the very edge. It is not visible from the outside, and is a very minor flaw. There are no other chips, cracks, flaking, crazing or any other issues.
