This wonderful Victorian Revival navette, in classic Juliana 1967 style, is the perfect addition to your collectable jewelry box. I received this ring, along with another one, from a lady who has been a collector of Juliana jewelry for years. She felt very certain this was an actual Juliana Original navette ring, based on the construction. However, following her lead, I refer to it as Juliana Style because without the original hangtag or identification as a "book piece", jewelry cannot be certified as Juliana Original. However, the large bright navette, with an "open rivet" setting, surrounded by smaller prong-set faceted rhinestones, is classic Juliana construction.
Juliana jewelry was made only between 1967 and 1968. There were not many Juliana Original rings made, and not many have survived as rings because many were converted to brooches or necklaces if the bands broke.
Currently set at a ring size 8, the rhinestone setting measures approximately 1" long by .5" wide. The setting and stones are in excellent condition. The adjustable band shows wear - the original gold tone coating has come off, revealing the original metal. Because this could possibly be an historic, highly collectable ring, I would have a professional adjust the size to fit you, then leave it alone.
What does Navette mean? Very popular in the Victorian era, navette ("little ship") is an elongated stone that is pointed at each end, so it looks like a tiny boat.
