Beautiful hand crafted pottery wind chime made from high fired white clay that when it rains, turns a pale pinkish terra cotta on the unglazed surfaces. Will make a gorgeous addition to your patio, garden, deck or window!

The sound of a pottery chime is muted, almost like the sound of bamboo chimes due to the sound of the fired clay which is lightweight, yet very hardy and can withstand weather extremes. I crafted the pieces one by one and carved the Incan Chavin Staff Deity by hand, then in the kiln at 1500 F for several hours. I then partially glazed the pieces with a sea turquoise and fired them once again. I added two dots of fine silver for the eyes. The chime is decorated with Swarovski crystal glass beads, glass beads, agate beads, quartz crystal chips, a large Picasso Jasper stone bead, Tibetan agate beads. Total length is 18 inches long by 4-1/2 inches wide. ( 45cm x 11 cm).

The Chavin Staff Deity is an ancient stone petroglyph, thousands of years old, carved into the central part of the Gateway of the Sun at the ancient temple of Tiwanaku. A wide range of beliefs were held by the people of the Andean Area, who appeared to worship a pantheon of deities. The Staff Deity is one of the most well-known Andean iconographic images, and the earliest widespread pan-Andean deity. This enduring figure is typically depicted facing forward, with outstretch arms holding staffs. Depicted on all sorts of media, this tradition can be traced back to the Chavín culture, where we see images of figures holding serpent staffs.
