This fabulous piece a ceramic sculpture from the 1950s attributed to Dorothy Thorpe. It is a modernist style sea urchin with gorgeous detailing in the center with 'spaghetti' poms. The glaze is in values of aqua and bluish purple with the natural white edges. This is one of a set of three I purchased from a woman who said they belonged to her mother, and that were, indeed, Dorothy Thorpe pieces. The most readable of the pieces says Hest; m.k.; for Dorothy C. Thorpe. This particular piece has most, but not all of the inscription.
I'm guessing that it might have been a prototype that had been made from Dorothy Thorpe's design. Thorpe was a designer, but not necessarily the actual maker of her iconic pieces.
It measures approximately 7.5" at the widest by 3.5" at the tallest
Condition: Good Vintage, with a few tiny, tiny flea bites along the edges
