Antique Parian Figure of a Stallion and man, possibly Gladiator/slave trying to gain control of the horse.
Made in Germany, marked on base with model number 522, no manufacturer stamp but most likely by A.W.F. Kister Scheibe Alsbach who produced some wonderful Gladiator pieces around the turn of the century.
Date of manufacture between 1900 - 1915.
Some very fine detailing in this figurine, which is made of bisque Parian, highlighting form and muscle, giving depth appearance.
Naturalistic proportions and positioning. Remnants of a purple/violet tone in the linen string which is attached to the head gear of the horse and runs through both hands of the man in which are finely drilled holes.
Beautiful work of art, in good condition, small repair to horse's right ear, but not noticeable in the overall impressiveness of this piece.
Amount of detail is absolutely stunning from every angle.
Measures 21 cm tall, 17.5 cm wide, 11.5 cm depth, standing securely on a 14 cm x 9 cm square base.
