This is a pair of cast brass gladiator, twin branch candle holders. They measure approximately 8" high and are 5 1/2" wide. The base diameter of the plinth is 4". The details appear to be hand etched.
They weigh approximately 800grams each so shipping will be on the high side. There is no maker's mark but both are stamped 79 on the bottom of the base. I believe these are Edwardian at least. One source said that also and it is not an unreasonable assumption.
These would make an awesome addition to somebody's collection of antique candle holders. Unique to say the least!
Condition: They have a moderately heavy patina of staining. What looks like green verdegris is merely green wax residue, most of which I have removed. One cup under one candle holder has been replaced and I only noticed that when I did some polishing. It polished up to a little different color brass than the rest of the figurines. The scallop design is also slightly different, as is the depth. Can you believe I've had them for over 15 years and not noticed until today? The casting job was not great and there are pits, that I believe happened during casting. The actual candle holders and the cups beneath can be removed. I have replaced one screw, as has one of the previous owners. Three screws are rusty and magnetic.(not brass)
