"The Old Checkered House" is very detailed picturesque folk art portrait of farm life with people activity, horses, barns, classic white fences, ponds. It depicts a Revolutionary Era Stage coach Inn along the Cambridge Turnpike in Eastern N.Y. Grandma Moses fame reached a new level when her painted scene was featured in the background in Life Magazine's spring issue of 1946 for "Primitive Red" lipstick by Du Barry. Everything came in a red and white checkered box!
