"The Bather" was sculpted by Allegrain in 1767 for Madame Du Barry (mistress of Louis XV) and placed in the gardens of the château at Louvecienne. Although the goddess of love, Venus, influenced Allegrain's statue, her small head, delicate features and slender waist are characteristics of the 18th century French ideal. Stunning 17.5 X 5 inch, plaster/chalkware statue is in very good condition. A couple of chips and some paint loss. Absolutely gorgeous! 4.5 pounds. I may have over estimated shipping and will refund partial overage if applicable.
