Vintage cobalt blue Moderntone footed salt / pepper shaker was made by Hazel Atlas from 1934 to 1942. This is another of the popular depression glass dinnerware patterns that is so collectible.
An interesting aside from Florence's Depression Glass Book, 16th edition said "Originally a 36-piece set of cobalt blue Moderntone could be bought for $1.69 plus freight costs for 24 pounds. You had to send 2 or 4 coupons from flour, no hardship since baking was an everyday thing then. However, $1.69 was more than a day's wages for laborers".
This 3 3/8" single salt or pepper shaker has lost it's lid, but is in great vintage condition, with no chips, cracks or discoloration. This old colored glassware shaker has a rich cobalt blue color.
