This copy of “First Aid for the Ailing House” by Roger C. Whitman is pocket sized and soft cover. It is the 6th printing dated December 1966.
It is a wonderful handy and quite popular little book that has all sorts of tips & fix-it’s for the ailing home. Some topics in this 474 page book are: Painting, Humidity Issues, Concrete, Masonry, Cleaning, Pest Control, Plumbing, Preventing Storm Damage and so much more.
First copyright of the book was in 1934 (and again in 1938 & 1946) and it has continual printings.
The brown cover shows an open door with household tools inside. The door front holds the author and title of the book.
It is a pocket sized book measuring 6 1/4" x 4 1/2" x 3/4" (17.2cm x 11.4cm x 1.9cm).
The book is well worn with creases of pages on the bottom right – at least 20 pages worth. The spine as well as the edges also shows wear which are visible in the pictures.
This book was found in a cabin my mother purchased by a stream. It does have a musty odor. We have sealed it away with the company of baking soda and a wonderful sweetgrass sachet. This combination works wonders :)
A book that many of us can certainly relate to, as well as utilize some of the many tips! It would also be quite a humorous housewarming gift for someone who has just purchased “the wreck” in hopes of bringing it back to its former beauty or even for that first-time home buyer. Its worn look and yellowed pages also make it wonderful for many paper crafts.
