Celtic Goblets glazed in elegant Black for Weddings, Anniversaries, Celebrations, Tableware, Gift Idea... functional stoneware finished with glazes that are Food Safe for any type of beverage, hot or cold. These elegant wineglasses are perfect for any occasion, to toast a wedding, anniversary, holidays, New Year's Eve or any special celebration. Great accessory for Fantasy/Celtic/Renaissance Festival costuming. The original design was hand crafted by Jane at Chischilly Pottery's home studio. The goblet cup and stem were made on the potter's wheel and each carved with a traditional Celtic knot work design. Then, slip-casting molds were made to reproduce the original.

These cups are tough, durable stoneware, dense and strong. This makes them able to absorb and hold the temperature of your drink longer than any other natural material. They can be pre-chilled in the freezer to enhance your favorite frosty drink, ... like a lovely chilled wine on a warm summer afternoon... or heated with hot water from tap or kettle for tea, toddies, wassail or hot buttered rum-mmm. The Celtic knots that I chose for the goblet design are both traditional designs. The Celts had no written history and so, for the most part, the original meanings of the knots have been lost in the mists of time. Generally speaking, a true Celtic pattern will be totally continuous ... never-ending... symbolizing continuity and cycles of life. So far as I know, the knotwork design on the cup of the goblet is a sort of lotus or other water lily flower. Flowers are all about life and fertility and joyous beauty (and so, I thought, suitable symbols for weddings and other celebrations of life.) The design on the stem of the cup is a triangular knot that is representational of all possible trinities such as the elementals of earth fire and water... or spirit, mind, body... or the Holy Trinity.
