Sculpture of a dragon's head made into a drinking horn style beer mug -- it is fantasy art to drink from! This design is an original work of art by Chischilly Pottery, inspired by a unique Greek drinking vessel known as the Rhyton*. Cool cup for gamers, fantasy geeks, Renaissance Festival costuming...
Food Safe Glazes for any beverage, Hot or Cold. This was hand carved by Jane Chischilly and then cast and reproduced in studio by the mother/son (Jane/Jason) team that is Chischilly Pottery.
*A rhyton is a container from which fluids were intended to be drunk, or else poured in some ceremony such as libation, a ritual pouring of a drink as an offering to a god or deity). Rhytons were very common in ancient Persia. After a Greek victory on Persia, much silver, gold, and other luxuries, including numerous rhytons, were brought to Athens. Persian rhytons, which appear in Athens suddenly in great quantities after the war, were immediately imitated by Greek artists.
The style of rhyton that I make is but one of the variations. These unique vessels from ancient history were often in the shape of animals' heads. Frequently they were "bottom's up cups" to be set down only when empty, -- on the rim. With my design, they are adapted so they can be set down after about 1/3 of the drink is fnished.
