Introducing the Wild Boar mug. It is a drinking horn style beer mug glazed in Turkish Amber. The Wild Boar Mug is a unique drinking vessel that was inspired by ancient Greek rhytons that were often formed in the shapes of animals' heads. The original rhytons were "bottom's up cups" that were set down on the rim when finished. I adapted the design with a tripod that allows you to set it down after consuming about a third (1/3) of your drink.
VOLUME: 28 ounces, full (held upright)........................ 20 ounces -- as it sits on a table
The boar will make a unique addition to your home bar drinkware. It is a great mug to complete your Renaissance costume or to take along to any Sci-Fi Fantasy or even Celtic Festival, Gathering, or Feasting event.
In Celtic mythology, the boar was a symbol of ferociousness and strength and often used in the symbolism of warriors and associated with the Goddess Arduinna. In Greek mythology the Caledonian boar was associated with Artemis, the Hunter Goddess. The Boar is a powerful symbol that appears in mythologies around the world.
A note: Stoneware pottery is dense, durable and can hold the temperature of your drink longer than any other natural material. You can CHILL it in the Freezer to enhance your favorite frosty beverage as well as preheating it with hot water for your tea, coffee, wassail. etc.
The boar is my own original design which I sculpted and carved. I then made a plaster mold for reproducing it by slip casting. All work is done, start to finish, in my home studio.
