After a Greek victory on Persia, spoils of war including numerous rhytons, were brought to Athens. Persian rhytons, which appear in Athens suddenly in great quantities after the war, were immediately imitated by Greek artists. A rhyton is a container from which fluids were intended to be drunk, or else poured in some ceremony such as libation -- a ritual pouring of a drink as an offering to a god or deity. Rhytons were very common in ancient Persia.

This is a great cup for parties, costumed events or just for enjoying your favorite beverage in style. My cups are guaranteed to keep you cool with or without beverage. ;)    Can go in the freezer for a nice CHILLED glass.   Because stoneware is very dense, it is more durable and can hold the temperature of your beverages far longer than any other natural material.

All our cast pieces are originally hand thrown on the potters wheel and then painstakingly carved by hand as well. Then molds are cast of the original art to be reproduced in studio by Jane and Jason Chischilly (Mother - Son).
