This Ram beer mug is an original work of art by Chischilly Pottery, designed after a unique drinking vessel known as the Rhyton. Originally a "Bottom's Up Cup" to be set on the rim when empty, I have redesigned it with a tripod so it may be set down after only a third of the drink is finished. The quality craftsmanship and sculptural design of the Ram mug make it suitable for display as home decor when not in use as a mug. It will make a unique accent piece for your Home Bar Drinkware. This is a great cup for parties, celebrations, costumed events or just for enjoying your favorite beverage in style. My cups are guaranteed to keep you cool with or without beverage. ;). You CAN set it down after you have finished about 1/3 of your drink as shown in pictures.
Length: 7 1/2 inches (Top of cup to nose/bottom) Height: 6 inches (Sitting Up on handle) Width: 3 inches (at rim) Capacity: 20 fluid oz
All 100% Food Safe glazes -- "Stoneware ceramics" is dense, durable and can hold the temperature of your beverages far longer than any other natural material. You may Chill the mug in the freezer for your favorite frosty beverage.
All our cast pieces are originally hand thrown on the potters wheel and then painstakingly sculpted and carved by hand as well. Then they are cast and reproduced in studio by Jane and Jason Chischilly (Mother - Son). This is my original art work, no commercial molds are ever used.
A Little HISTORY: After a Greek victory on Persia, much silver, gold, and other luxuries, including numerous rhytons, were brought to Athens. Persian rhytons, which appear in Athens suddenly in great quantities after the war, were immediately imitated by Greek artists. A rhyton is a container from which fluids were intended to be drunk, or else poured in some ceremony such as libation, a ritual pouring of a drink as an offering to a god or deity.
