Purchased these wonderful dishes back in the mid 70’s at the antique store that I worked at the time. I have had these little gems packed away and have recently decided to sell them.  It appears that the man is either hoeing or using a sickle while the woman holds a gathering basket. These are very rare dishes and if you do a search on the internet you will find out just how rare they are. A wonderful seller told me that Blue Ridge did the PV plates for a specialty company. I found that the company was most probably Mittledorfer Straus Inc. These are vibrant dishes and has the jobber PV mark on the back. These are in near mint condition with no chips, cracks but some light crazing. Plates are vibrant and shiny. I have come across sold plates and they are all doing different garden things. Some hoeing, some picking up sticks or gathering flowers but I have never seen a complete set advertised. The seller noted in his listing that the red borders are more rare. No chips or cracks to either and would be wonderful in your primitive country home.Plates are 5-7/8 inches.

Found this on the internet:  "Pottery pieces produced by S.P.I. were commonly marked with variety of back stamps and/or marks, however a large percentage of the pieces produced were not marked. Besides the Clinchfield crown, there are at least seven different S.P.I. or Blue Ridge marks known to exist. There were also a variety of other back stamps, known as jobber marks, applied to S.P.I. pieces produced for smaller companies that wanted these pieces back stamped with their own mark. Some patterns were exclusive to the jobber, while other patterns were regular Blue Ridge. Some common jobber back stamps include those produced for Westfall China Company, Primrose China, UCAGO or United China and China Company, and PV or Peasant Village used by Mittledorfer Straus Inc. Not all items with these back stamps were produced by S.P.I. as these companies used a variety of manufactures to produce their products.”
