I picked up this big, blue-grey agate some months ago and recently created a bold sterling brooch to hold it. It sure makes a statement. The lovely, translucent agate displays shades from gold, through blue-gray, to near white and is flecked with dark speckles. I chose to set it atop an asymmetrical diamond shape cut from solid sterling sheet and embellished with a hammered finish. I cut the large claws that secure the stone from within the center of the mount (see back view).
It’s pretty clear this is NOT an item to adorn your sheer summer dresses but, when fall arrives, you can make a serious statement by pinning this beauty to your lapel or using it to hold a scarf.
This piece measures just under 3 inches at its widest point (about the length of a flash drive) and is close to 2 inches tall.
