Description

Superb vintage copper lustre lidded sugar bowl with side handles by Gibson & Sons of Burslem, Staffordshire, England. The maker's stamp on the base of the sugar bowl appears to have been used from around 1912 up to the 1930's and, therefore a little difficult to pinpoint the exact age.

CONDITION: A vintage used item in good condition for its age - no chips, cracks or crazing, but noting just small scratch marks here and there from use. The finish is so smooth and shiny (capturing half my dining room in its reflection - sorry!) - A fabulous little piece of history. Please study photographs.

MEASUREMENTS:

Width of Bowl: approx. 4" (10.2 cms)

Width from handle to handle: 6" (15.2 cms)

Height to top of bowl rim: 2 3/4" (7.0 cms)

The Maker mark reads: G & S Ltd, BURSLEM, MADE IN ENGLAND.

A Little information:

Gibson and Sons (Ltd), of the Harvey Pottery, Lingard Street, Burslem (1885), earthenware manufacturer

of Albany Pottery, Moorland Road, Burslem (to 1965). 1907-1910 they manufactured the Largest Teapot in the World which held 1024 cups of tea.

1965 the Albany Pottery was too large for the business which was moved to Howard Pottery, Norfolk Street, Shelton (with Royal Winton).
