This is so hard to let go - I'll never see another like! But neither will you. So get it now!
This gorgeous hat has a wool felt Merrimac body (the stamp is up under one of the folds, so it's really difficult to see and impossible to photograph), and YES, it's really that pink! The back has a tiny little matching wool bow at the nape of the neck. There's a black veil in the front as well. The only label inside is a Fair Labor Standards label, putting this sometime in the 1940s or 50s.
But let's face it - the real story is at the front. Black and pink butterflies, in wool felt, dance across the front of the brim. The brim is slightly upturned at the front to give the butterflies a better base of support, but this also means that they are never going to lay flat. I have steamed this hat and tried to give the butterflies a bit more shape and flatness.
Condition: aside from needing a bit more steaming, it's in really nice condition. I found no holes in the veil, and only one tiny moth hole on top of the hat, near the center (does not go all the way through). I'll be honest - to me, the wool doesn't feel like it's that great of quality, but the construction is solid and this hat should be around for man years to come.
Measurements: 7.5" in diameter; 3" tall in the back; 21" interior circumference.
