Isn't this adorable!? I'm having trouble deciding if this is a mini hat, or a child's hat.
This little hat is by Avalon. It's a black wool felt, and features a small crown atop a flat, small brim. The brim tapers from wide in the front to very narrow in the back. There's a grosgrain ribbon around the base of the crown, and a matching strap. One side of the strap has an elastic band, but there's not much stretch.
As you can see in photo 2, this is VERY small! I could see it going either way - as a formal hat for a child, or as a dapper little mini hat for a woman. Or it could be really cute for a doll or teddy bear accessory, even! I'm guessing this is 1940s, but it might be a bit earlier or later.
Condition: It's not perfect; as you can see in photo 4, there's some damage to the ribbon at the base of the crown (and another, smaller spot near the back), and the strap has also sustained some damage and would probably need repaired soon - photos 2 and 3 show this best. Other than that, I can't find any holes in the hat itself; the wool appears to be in great condition.
Measurements: crown is 5.25" front/back and 4.75" wide, and 2.25" tall. The brim is 2.25" wide at the front, tapering to just 1" wide in the back. The strap is 15" long, and it has a 15" circumference inside. I'm happy to answer questions, provide more photos, and combine shipping on items. Thanks for visiting!
