I am so happy I picked this up!
This gorgeous Dobbs Fifth Avenue hat isn't quite a fedora and isn't quite a trilby - the crown isn't lower on one end than the other, but the brim is very short. It has slight indents in the crown near the front on both sides. The original labels inside say it's a size 7, and the block was 480; it cost a whopping $17.50 when new! That's because this is a great hat. I can't find a fur content anywhere, but it's a lovely soft, heavyweight, very good quality. The label does NOT have the block depth number, so I'm sure this hat is from the 1960s.
Inside, the stamps read "Cushion-Aire" and "Guild Edge." According to what I can find, this special edge was only done on the highest-quality hats, because it was so difficult to do. It's also stamped "Henry's of Wichita" (Henry's was THE department store in Wichita KS), and it also has the original owner's name stamped in gold next to that. The sweat band is black leather, and still in nice condition - I think it might need a bit of a cleaning, but I didn't feel comfortable doing that.
Condition: As you can see in photo 5, there are some stains to the cream satin lining. I found one slight imperfection in the fur near the grosgrain band at the base of the crown (pin-size), and there are some more imperfections to the fur on the right-side, underneath the brim (I can send a photo). It may need blocked and shaped by a professional as well. Other than that, I don't see anything wrong.
Measurements: the label says a size 7. Crown is 4", brim is 1.75" wide, an approximate 21" interior circumference.
I'm happy to answer questions, provide more photos, and combine shipping on items. Thanks for visiting!
