The koi carp is a highly respected and very symbolic fish. It is thought to be a symbol of luck, prosperity and good fortune. In the Asian cultures, the koi fish is a celebrated creature as it once was brought from Eurasia to China and Korea approximately 2000 years ago primarily as a source of food. In the Japanese culture it is said that a Koi swims up rivers and climbs waterfalls with bravery not unlike a Samurai warrior. It is said that if a Koi is caught, it will lie still beneath the knife, facing its death bravely like a Samurai facing a sword.
Today's abstract resin painting jumped onto the cradleboard by way of acrylics and inks and almost immediately took the shape of a carp! An innocent reminder to be brave and "Sieze the Day." All we have is this moment. Surrender to the present, it is what it is. Enjoy and appreciate the riches that life brings today and you are sure to enjoy more!
This is a beautiful 18x18 resin pour painting. I call it Carpe Diem. Materials used were Liquitex ink, Daler Downey Acrylic Artists Ink, liquid gold foil, Art resin, heating tool and blow torch.
